Indiana Jail Officer Arrested for Alleged Contraband Trafficking to Inmates after Intense investigation

A correctional officer has been accused with trafficking cell phones and “possibly other contraband” to inmates in the Lake County Jail in Northwest Indiana, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez. The inmates were being held at the Lake County Jail.

On Friday, Martinez said that John Hoch, who is 56 years old and lives in Dyer, was brought into prison. In addition to the level 5 criminal trafficking accusations, he is now facing level 6 felony formal misconduct charges.

Hoch has been working at the correctional facility for the past 3-and-a-half years. Martinez stated that the charges against him were the result of a “intense investigation” that took place over the course of several months.

Numerous individuals may have been involved in the trafficking, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, which is still conducting an investigation.

Additionally, the authorities did not release any additional information right away.
