A Livingston County woman was among two fatalities in a weekend crash in Northern Michigan.
According to the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at about 1:15 Saturday afternoon to a crash scene in the 9300 Block of Cherrybend Road near Dalzell Road in Elmwood Township. Initial information was that there was a 2-car accident at the location. Upon arrival, it was determined that a crash had taken place between a 1965 Ford Cobra 427 replica and a 2020 BMW X3 SUV. Both vehicles contained two occupants.
The driver of the Ford replica was identified as David James Spencer, 62 of Traverse City while his passenger was Kathryn Denise Fogle, 41 of Howell. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The BMW was driven by a 52-year-old female from Traverse City and also contained a 25-year-old passenger from Traverse City. They were transported to Munson Medical Center with serious injuries.
An investigation indicated that the Ford Replica was travelling southeast on Cherrybend Road at a very high rate of speed when it lost control and struck the BMW that had been travelling northwest.
While speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, authorities say alcohol and drugs are not believed to be involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
