Howell High School celebrated members of the Class of 2023 and their post-secondary education plans during the school’s annual Decision Day event on Friday.
Members of the senior class entered the school’s field house holding signs that represented their post-secondary education plans. The event also included a performance by members of the school’s Rock Band class. Students from Howell High School, Highlander Way Middle School, Parker Middle School, the district’s elementary schools attended the event.
One of the students honored at Decision Day was Cadet Jaidah Davis, Group Commander for Howell High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) unit. Cadet Davis has been appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAF) in Colorado. Rated as a top college by U.S. News and World Report, USAF Academy has high admission standards, with only 11% percent of applicants receiving an appointment.

In addition to earning an appointment to USAF Academy, Cadet Davis also received the J-100 AFJROTC Character-in-Leadership Scholarship, a full-ride scholarship to the academy. Cadet Davis is one of only 100 AFJROTC cadets nationwide to receive this scholarship. She will report to the academy in June.

The goal of Decision Day was to celebrate the school’s seniors for their post-secondary educational plans and encourage younger students to prepare early for their post-secondary education plans.
