The Howell Farmers Market, hosted by the Howell Chamber of Commerce, kicked off its 26-week season of Sunday offerings on downtown Howell’s State St. May 7.

An early rainfall didn’t deter vendors or shoppers from the opening.

Howell farmers market manager Colleen Monroe, also a vendor herself with husband Michael Glenn Monroe, said that the market was expanded further north on State St. as well as along portions of Clinton adjoining the Historic Livingston County Courthouse to accommodate “a very eclectic bunch of new vendors.”

Monroe says “You go to a lot of other markets and there’s some buy/sell going on. They’re buying it from either Eastern Market or other places in Michigan and bringing it in. You’re not talking to the person who actually grew it. And that makes Howell really unique is that’s the integrity of our market that you’re walking up to the person who grew it.”

This marks the market’s 30th year, including some vendors who have been repeat participants for most of those 30 years. Monroe has overseen it for the past five years, having been a vendor for approximately 4 years prior to her managerial role with the Chamber.

The market runs Sundays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
