Howell City Clerk resigns abruptly

After just more than a year on the job, Howell’s city clerk has resigned.

In a press release, city officials say they received notice of the resignation of Howell City Clerk Angela Guillen, effective May 10.

“The City wishes her well in her future endeavors,” read the statement, which did not disclose a reason for the sudden resignation.

Guillen was hired in February of 2021 to replace longtime Clerk Jane Cartwright, who left after 17 years with the city. Guillen previously served as the deputy clerk in Genesee County’s Mundy Township.

On Monday, May 9, City Council voted unanimously to appoint HR Director Jamie Helman to the position of Interim City Clerk, while also voting unanimously to appoint Deanna Robson to the position of City Clerk with a start date of May 19. Robson is a former Deputy Clerk for the City of Howell.

“She comes to us with great experience and knowledge of our community,” read the statement. “We look forward to Deanna joining our team as we wish her success.”
