After announcing multiple closures throughout the country, a large essential retailer has now confirmed closures in Ohio, according to sources.

Rite Aid declared bankruptcy and closed more than 200 stores before announcing four further closures.

According to The Sun, the most recent store closures are part of a bigger wave of closures that is occurring throughout several states.

Rite Aid declared that it would close 12 stores in Michigan and 15 in Ohio.

Five locations in Ohio have been made public, according to local NBC affiliate WFMJ.

In the upcoming weeks, stores in Girard, Hubbard, East Palestine, and Cortland will close.

The precise addresses are as follows:

  • Girard: 713 North State Street
  • Hubbard: 147 West Liberty Street
  • East Palestine: 25 West Main Street
  • Cortland: 569 High Street

Rite Aid declared earlier this week that one of its locations in Youngstown, Ohio will be closing. The address of the store is 4914 Youngstown-Poland Road.

Apart from these establishments, others that were in Pennsylvania, California, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia have also closed.

Rite Aid has around 1,700 outlets today, down from 5,000 over the previous 20 years.

Closures, according to the corporation, are a result of reviewing its “retail footprint.”

Similar problems are being faced by rival Walgreens, which recently revealed that up to 25% of its locations may collapse.

Just 19 out of the 8,600 establishments have been identified as closing thus far:

According to Walgreens, the closures are a component of a larger optimization plan that will take place over many years.

“We still have a challenging operating environment, with ongoing pressures on U.S. consumers and the effect of recent changes in the marketplace that have reduced pharmacy margins,” CEO Time Wentworth stated.

He disclosed that approximately 25% of outlets do not support the company’s long-term goals.

He went on, “We’re wrapping up an optimization program that we anticipate will involve closing a big percentage of these locations over the next three years.”

“To improve the experience for patients and customers, we are also investing in many initiatives and actions.”
