A Hartland Township man has been identified as the fatality that occurred on I-96 near Williamston the night of August 24th when an EF2 tornado swept through the area.
41-year-old Robert Russell’s body was found early the next morning with his pickup truck in a wooded area off of the freeway. The Lansing State Journal says the construction coordinator for Comcast was driving to a work site in Holt when he was caught in the twister.
Russell’s obituary described him as “a true friend whose kindness and generosity knew no bounds. He had a special knack for making friends and forging connections, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. His positive spirit, infectious smile, one of a kind sense of humor, and genuine care for others made him a true friend to so many.”
He leaves behind his wife Claire, his mother Catherine Kelenske and brother Dan Russell.
A funeral service for Russell will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 at the Borek-Jennings Howell Memorial Chapel, 1700 Highland Road in Howell. Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m. at.
The family asks that donations be made in Russell’s memory to Gift of Life Michigan or the Michigan Humane Society.
