by New York City, New York – A Harlem mother of four was brutally stabbed to death in the hallway of her apartment building early Monday morning, and authorities have charged a 41-year-old man with her murder.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to a 911 call around 4:25 a.m. on November 10 at 409 West 129th Street, where they discovered 47-year-old Carmen Lopez suffering from multiple stab wounds to her torso.
Lopez was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, officials confirmed.
The following day, Luis Marquez, 41, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with her death. Police have not yet released details about a possible motive, though investigators believe Lopez knew her attacker.

Investigators Believe Suspect Was Ex-Boyfriend
Sources told that Marquez is believed to have been Lopez’s ex-boyfriend. He allegedly arrived at a Bronx hospital with cuts on his hands and clothing matching the crime scene, prompting staff to alert authorities.
A building porter told reporters that he heard Lopez screaming, “Stop, Luis!” moments before she collapsed to the ground in the hallway.
“She was a great mother and a great human being. She loved our family, and she loved life,” said Lucy Lopez, the victim’s sister, in an interview with the New York Daily News.
Neighbors Describe Horror and Heartbreak
Neighbors said Lopez had lived in the building for several years and was known as a loving mother who cared deeply for her four children. Several residents described the horrific aftermath of the attack.
“There was blood all over the place,” one neighbor told CBS News.
Residents have since set up a candle memorial outside the building’s entrance in Lopez’s memory. Members of a local anti-violence organization also visited the scene to offer emotional support and resources to grieving neighbors and family members.
Police Continue to Investigate Motive
Investigators are still piecing together the events that led to Lopez’s murder. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the building and nearby streets to determine how Marquez gained access to the property and whether there were signs of a prior confrontation.
