Gymnastics coach bound over on child accosting charges

The owner of a Whitmore Lake gymnastics business has been bound over for trial on charges of child accosting for immoral purposes, a four-year felony.

According to court records, 42-year-old Jermain Martinez waived his preliminary exam on Tuesday, sending his case to circuit court for trial.

Martinez, who served prison time on prior drunk driving and suspended license convictions, owns the iTumble gymnastics business in Whitmore Lake.

He turned himself into the Green Oak Township Police Department in early August after a 17-year-old female gym employee said Martinez brought her to a trailer he owned in Washtenaw County, where the alleged abuse occurred.

Martinez’s attorney previously said his client denies the allegations, which he claims were made the day after he ended a relationship with the girl’s mother.
