Green Oak gym owner charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes

The owner of a Green Oak Township gymnastics business is due back in court next  week after being charged in Livingston County District Court with child accosting for immoral purposes.

Jermain Martinez – MDOC

According to court records, 42-year-old Jermain Martinez is due for a probable cause conference next Tuesday, Aug. 9 with a preliminary exam set for Aug. 16.

The Livingston Daily reports that Martinez, who owns the iTumble gymnastics business in Whitmore Lake, claimed on a private Facebook page that the gym was closed this week due to a back injury, but he planned to reopen on Monday. As of Thursday, the Facebook group was no longer visible

WDIV says that Martinez turned himself into the Green Oak Township Police Department earlier this week and that he was released after posting bond on Wednesday. A source close to the investigation told the TV station that the case involves a 17-year-old female gym employee who Martinez allegedly brought to a trailer he owned in Washtenaw County, where the alleged abuse occurred.

Martinez’s attorney said his client denies the allegations, which he claims were made the day after he ended a relationship with the girl’s mother.

Martinez has previous OUIL convictions, the most recent of which he served time in prison before being released in September of 2021.
