Ginopolis says it may be closing for good due to Streetscape Project

A popular bar-restaurant in downtown Brighton says it will close its doors at the end of the month – perhaps permanently.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Ginopolis stated that it was “with heavy hearts” they were announcing that the restaurant would be closing its doors at the end of the day on July 31st.

“Construction on Main St. has slowed our business to an unsustainable pace and because of this we will be closed at-least until the project is finished,” stated the post. “After the project is finished, we may no longer be here. We are unsure of our future at the moment but we do appreciate our past.”

Ginopolis Restaurant moved to Brighton in 2019 after 37 years in Farmington Hills, where it earned a reputation for great food and as must-be place for sports and entertainment celebrities.

The ongoing Streetscape Project that is completely remaking Main Street, has resulted in many businesses reporting double-digit sales declines and led to the creation of the Believe in Brighton campaign by a group of downtown business owners trying to “celebrates Downtown Brighton business owners, encouraging residents and visitors to shop, dine and experience Downtown Brighton during the 2023 Main Street Streetscape construction and beyond.”

For Ginopolis, this will be the second closure after they transformed in April to a country bar with line dancing called Cowgirls Country Bar & Grill. However, by June the owners decided to revert to the Ginopolis name, although line dancing classes and open dance floor nights continued.

The owners said they appreciated “Brightons love and support over the years,” which they said had “been nothing short of exceptional. We still have a few weeks left so come on in for one last hurrah!”
