Genesis House sets Open House for new location

A local community center for men and women in Livingston County who are living with a mental health condition will hold an open house next week.

Genesis House recently moved from Fowlerville to Howell, and will hold an Open House on Wednesday, June 21st from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to allow community members a chance to learn more about the organization..

Genesis House is a program of Livingston County Community Mental Health and follows the Clubhouse model, an internationally recognized approach. Members of the Clubhouse volunteer their talents to help operate the center in a variety of ways and work with staff collaboratively. According to officials, the co-working model provides unique opportunities for building confidence, skills, relationships, and empowerment. Upon joining the Clubhouse, members choose from a variety of opportunities for employment, education, wellness, and more. Members support one-another, building friendships, community, and a sense of purpose.

Genesis House opened in Howell in 1993, and moved to Fowlerville in 1999.

“The members and staff of Genesis House and Livingston County CMH want to thank the Fowlerville community for their strong support over the years,” stated a press release. “The move to Howell enables Genesis House members to have a much larger newly renovated space to expand programming.”

“Genesis House colleagues are excited about this new chapter, and they are looking forward to getting to know their new neighbors. Having a supportive community means so much when it comes to improving mental health,” said the release.

All are welcome at the open house on Wednesday, June 21st. Refreshments and snacks will be served, and members will give tours. The new location is 1137 E. Grand River, Howell, in the Promenade Mall.

Genesis House is open daily, Monday through Friday with some weekend activities. Genesis House members are consumers of Livingston County Community Mental Health who have a qualifying diagnosis.
