Fowlerville man sentenced in baseball bat attack

A Livingston County man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in a brutal baseball bat attack.

32-year-old Christopher Simons of Fowlerville was sentenced on Tuesday to a 62-and-a-half years prison term after being convicted in October by an Oakland County jury of assault with intent to murder for the 2019 beating of Alexsander Malec of Northville.

The attack occurred in Lyon Township after Malec was lured to a wooded trail by Jessica Kropiewnicki, someone he considered a friend. Simons then attacked Malec with a bat, striking him multiple times in the head.

Kropiewnicki, was originally charged with assault with intent to murder and pleaded no contest in 2020. She was set to be sentenced to five years in prison under a plea deal, but then disappeared for three weeks after cutting her electronic tether the day before she was to be sentenced.

She was eventually taken into custody and sentenced to 15-30 years in prison.
