New York – A life-saving liver transplant brought together a 5-year-old New York kid and his former preschool instructor.
Just last week, 5-year-old Ezra Toczek was released from a Manhattan hospital following a liver transplant that saved his life 45 days ago. His living donor was his ex-preschool teacher Carissa Fisher, who had volunteered for the role in March.
Ezra, who had liver abnormalities at birth and is currently undergoing treatment for end-stage liver disease due to persistent difficulties, found the ideal match in Fisher. The 5-year-old and his family had a long road ahead of them, and the transplant was a big obstacle.

The five-year-old Ezra Toczek is now getting back on his feet after a liver transplant saved his life…
After obtaining a liver donation from his previous preschool instructor, 5-year-old Ezra Toczek is finally on the path to recovery.
Mother Karen Toczek expressed gratitude for having crossed the finish line, saying, “It’s been a lot longer of a road than we thought the initial recovery would be.” Ezra endured a difficult ordeal. His whole aging liver was surgically removed. His only possession is the exquisite new item that Carissa gave him.
Fisher spent six weeks in the Big Apple as a donor before heading back to Alden in the latter part of August. She expresses pride in having been able to assist her young companion while she navigates her own healing process.

“It makes me feel good about myself. She expressed her joy at being able to assist him, adding that everyone else is just as thrilled that he is improving.
According to Ezra’s mom, the transplant was life-saving, and she’ll be forever grateful to Fisher for everything she did.
It’s hard to describe, to be honest. I’ll never be able to thank her enough, and it means the world to me that she lives close enough to be a part of our lives and see him develop,” Toczek gushed.
Beloved for all time, Ezra Toczek, age 5, and Carissa Fisher, his former preschool instructor, are now…

The gift of life has created an eternal bond between the two sets of relatives.
It was a wild, wild ride. That’s the way I’d describe it. It was wild, exciting, and now all Fisher can think about is when Ezra gets home and they can see each other again.
While he continues to rehabilitate, the mother and 5-year-old son plan to remain in New York City for a few more weeks. The families intend to celebrate and reunite upon their return.
