Former Abernathy Bank CFO Sentenced to Nearly Three Years for $800K Embezzlement!

Vicki Lee Grisham, a 52-year-old former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Abernathy Bank, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for theft and embezzlement.

The decision came from U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix, who also ordered her to repay $800,755.63 to the bank’s insurance company.

After finishing her prison time, Grisham will remain under supervised release for five years.

Grisham abused her position at the bank by using a company credit card for personal expenses instead of work-related purposes.

The court found she spent bank money on vacations, restaurant meals, clothing, college tuition, and even her income taxes.

Her misuse of funds came to light in March 2023, when the bank management discovered the fraudulent activity.

On the day Grisham was confronted, she admitted to using the bank’s resources for her benefit and that of her family. Her actions betrayed the trust placed in her by the bank.

As part of her punishment, Grisham is also barred from working with any FDIC-insured financial institution in the future. This restriction was issued under an FDIC Order of Prohibition.

The investigation was led by the FBI’s Dallas Field Office, and the prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Howey.

Federal authorities have emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for financial crimes to protect the integrity of the banking system.

The sentencing highlights the serious consequences of embezzlement and misuse of power, showing that no one is above the law.
