Florida Red Lobster Closes Doors Inside the Troubling Inspector Report

MJP –

Anyone living in Florida who likes seafood has likely noticed the recent ups and downs of Red Lobster. This once-iconic chain has gone through some rough times, with over 20 stores closing down in the last several months around the state.

Although it was able to recover from bankruptcy, a new issue surfaced at the Red Lobster in Fort Pierce, and it had nothing to do with money. The restaurant was temporarily closed after a state inspection found some worrying things.

What Were the Inspection’s Defects?

Bad things happened during the September 5, 2024, inspection by officials from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

There were eight infractions that were discovered. A plain old cutting board, some water pooling on the floor, and a slow-draining basin for washing hands were among the more fundamental issues. Additionally, there was a problem with the handwash sink not having enough paper towels.

The infractions of high importance, however, were far more concerning. The following issues were identified: “sewage/wastewater backing up through floor drains,” the improper storage of raw shrimp above baked potatoes (clearly not the right place!), and the shredded cheese being kept at a temperature higher than the safe 41 degrees.

The Fort Pierce Red Lobster was briefly closed due to these offenses. Seafood lovers, take heart: the restaurant fixed most of the problems after a subsequent inspection later that day.

The establishment “met inspection standards” and was permitted to reopen, even though three violations were still outstanding.

After a little more cleaning up, this Red Lobster appears to be open for business again, so satisfy your cravings for their renowned Cheddar Bay biscuits!
