A Macomb Township firefighter wearing full firefighter gear continued his 140 mile journey across Michigan, walking through Livingston County on Friday.
Joseph Warne began the #walkforthered in 2019 to raise money for firefighters battling cancer, the leading cause of death for firefighters.
After ending his walk Thursday night in White Lake Township, Warne and a group of fellow firefighters and supporters continued west along M-59 through Hartland and Oceola townships before heading down Michigan Avenue to Grand River in Downtown Howell and then ending the day at the main Howell Fire Station just east of Highlander Way.
Along the way, Warne was joined by Nikki Moor, the wife of Lt. Steve Moor of the Howell Area Fire Authority, who died last October after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Last year, Lt. Moor managed to meet up with Warne as he trekked across Livingston County to thank him personally for what he was doing. This year, his wife took his place wearing his firefighter coat, accompanied by Lt. Moor’s daughter Erica.

The walk restarts Saturday in Downtown Lansing and will take Grand River all the way to Ada, east of Grand Rapids, where the walk ends on Sunday.
