On Thursday night, a fire vehicle went down and overturned, severely injuring eight firefighters.

On State Route 241 in the Portola Springs area, the Orange County Fire Authority truck and the vehicle ahead of it were forced to swerve to avoid a ladder, as the California Highway Patrol reported.
Before it flipped over, the truck collided with a guardrail.
It seemed like only that one car was involved.
An off-duty CHP officer reported that six of the eight injured firefighters were in critical condition at the hospital.

Two more firemen managed to escape the incident with only minor wounds.
After the accident, CHP officials blocked down the northbound lanes of the interstate for five hours, as reported by CBS News.
The origin of the ladder is still unknown.
