Prosecutors said on Wednesday that they had indicted a vicious man who they believe killed his ex-girlfriend by “mercilessly” stabbing her outside of her Manhattan apartment building.
Shirley Rodriguez, 29, was accused of waiting outside the Washington Heights building for Tyquane Jemmott, 33, at around 5:30 a.m. on May 20. Jemmott is accused of waiting for Rodriguez and then viciously attacking her for a minute while she yelled, “Ty, why me? “Why me?” asked the Office of the Manhattan District Attorney.
Rodriguez suffered cuts to her face, arms, and chest after being stabbed “at least ten times.”
The bloodied victim, who was critically injured, managed to walk into the building’s lobby and buzz her apartment to call her mother and sister. As she lay dying, she said to them, “You did this to me.”
Assistant DA Shilpa Kalra declared in court on Wednesday, “This is a horrific murder involving domestic violence.” At the absolute least, the defendant stabbed his ex-girlfriend ten times. The autopsy report is still pending.

“He can be seen on camera hiding behind parked cars and laying there for almost three hours, waiting for his ex-girlfriend—who had broken up with the defendant just a week earlier—to leave her house so she can go to work.”

“He stabbed her viciously, repeatedly,” Kalra continued, informing Judge Gregory Carro that the startling attack “lasted for more than a minute.”
Although Jemmott is said to have left the scene, he was apprehended at a relative’s Bronx apartment later that day.
Shirley Rodriguez was adored by her family, which included her father, sister, and mother. DA Alvin Bragg said in a statement that these individuals regrettably had to hear the young woman’s last words before she passed away from her wounds.
“My heart is with them as they continue to mourn her passing.”As per the indictment, Jemmott was charged with one count of second-degree murder. He was released from custody until his next court appearance on September 18.
