Family members identify victim in Howell shooting death

Additional details have been released about a shooting death early Friday in Howell.

Just after midnight, officers from the Howell Police Department and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 400 block of West Street for a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived to find a 20-year-old-male deceased. Officers immediately established a crime scene, and said a suspect is in custody.

However, family members have identified the victim as 20-year-old Wede Okagbare, a student at Michigan State University. WXYZ-TV is reporting that Okagbare was at his girlfriend’s home on West Street when her ex-boyfriend, the father of her child, allegedly shot Okagbare six times.

The victim’s father, Robert Okagbare, said he found out about his son’s death from his other son who learned the news from the girlfriend.

“I really don’t know how long he had been with this girl or if the other guy has been jealous of him. I really don’t know,” he told the station.

Howell Police have yet to release any additional details about the death.
