The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on Tuesday closed one lane of eastbound M-59 between Lakena Road to Tipsico Road for resurfacing.
This work is the second phase of the M-59 resurfacing, safety, and drainage upgrades project, with the westbound lanes resurfaced starting in April. Access will be maintained to all businesses throughout the project, although it will require single-lane closures on eastbound M-59 so that motorists should expect delays.
The current lane closure is expected to be in effect until Tuesday, August 2, with the overall project completion set for Nov. 15.
MDOT officials say the project will provide a safer, smoother ride, along with drainage improvements that will ensure the integrity of the roadway. They add that closing lanes during this type of work is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists.
