Downtown Brighton Streetscape work will close Main Street

Main Street in Brighton will be closed in both directions on Monday from Grand River to the west side of the Hyne Street intersection, as work is set to begin on the Downtown Streetscape Project.

Traffic will be opened eastbound to First Street only; truck traffic will continue to use the Third Street Detour.

Demolition has already begun on the Millpond park area, with trees and sidewalk removal. In addition, some of the decorative light poles have been removed and brought back to the Public Works site, while the benches and trash receptacles in the Millpond park area have been removed and will be utilized in other areas of the City as replacements are part of the streetscape project. To put the new closure and detour in place, the traffic control devices currently being used for the watermain project will be relocated.

While the watermain project is finishing and the Streetscape Project is beginning, there will be two different contractors downtown. However, the contractor for the Streetscape Project is the same as the Grand River Project, and officials say that will be helpful with coordinating the two projects since they are occurring at the same time.
