The man’s death in 2021 was reported as a homicide by D.C. police on Monday.
In the evening of October 18, 2021, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) were called to the unit block of Quincy Place, NE about an unconscious person.
Zachary Freeling, 26, was discovered shot by police inside a house. When DC Fire and EMS arrived as well, they discovered Freeling had passed away.

DC police continue to look for additional suspects in the shooting in Nationals Park after apprehending one.
First responders took Freeling’s body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy; nevertheless, it wasn’t until June 20, 2024, that authorities informed MPD that Freeling’s cause of death had been judged to be a homicide.
