Deadline is noon Tuesday to apply for Howell school board vacancy

Less than a day remains for applications to be submitted to fill a seat on the Howell school board.

The vacancy opened up when earlier this month, Marcus Wilcox announced his resignation from the Howell Public Schools Board of Education but did not provide an explanation.

Eligible district residents interested in applying must submit an Interest in Board Vacancy Packet no later than Noon on Tuesday, December 20 to the Board of Education office located at 411 N. Highlander Way, Suite A, Howell. Only hard copies will be accepted. Failure to meet the deadline will disqualify the candidate from being considered for the position.

The Board of Education will interview applicants and appoint an individual to fill the vacant position during a special Board of Education meeting scheduled this Friday, December 23, at 8:00 a.m.

All interviews will be held in public in accordance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act. During the interview process, each candidate will give a brief statement. Following the statements, the Board will evaluate the candidates and vote on an appointment.

The selected individual will serve for the remainder of Wilcox’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2024.
