Columbus Teen's Life Cut Short in North Carolina Drowning Incident

North Nags Head, North Carolina –

On Wednesday, a young man from Columbus, Ohio, died by drowning in the North Carolina Outer Banks.

On Wednesday, a body was recovered from the ocean, according to representatives from the Nags Head Fire and Rescue and the Nags Head Police Department.

Authorities in Columbus determined that the deceased was an 18-year-old. Their identity is still a mystery.

At approximately 2:51 p.m., emergency services were summoned to the Gull Street Public Beach Access on South Virginia Dare Trail in response to swimmers who were reportedly in distress.

After receiving assistance from a lifeguard, one of the swimmers could return to land unharmed. No one could see the third swimmer coming.

A police officer from Nags Head used a drone to locate the third swimmer before requesting aerial assistance.

On the third swimmer’s return to land, a lifeguard transferred them to an ambulance. On arrival, the third swimmer was declared dead despite medical efforts.

A hospital was contacted to treat the remaining swimmers.
