A local fire chief has been recognized by an international organization.
The Fire and Life Safety Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs kicked off their Community Risk Reduction Conference earlier this week by honoring Brighton Fire Chief Michael O’Brian with the 2021 Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award.
The award was given in recognition of O’Brian’s “service, professional abilities and leadership in promoting the development of codes and the stellar example he has set for all fire prevention and fire protection professionals.”
The Fire and Life Safety Section works to create an environment in which deaths from structure fires are reduced to zero and property damage from structure fires is limited to the area of origin; firefighter deaths due to fire ground operations are reduced to zero; the organizational culture of fire departments places a greater priority on fire prevention and life safety and the public is clearly aware of the fire problem and their role in fire prevention.
