Firefighters in Tulsa show terrifying footage of the fire and the “significantly damaged” house, but they reassure viewers that the family’s cats and dogs made it out of the house unscathed via a dog door.
The family dog was the unexpected suspect that authorities found after a devastating fire in a Texas home near Tulsa.
The Tulsa Fire Department has issued a warning regarding the risks of lithium-ion batteries, and a video of a dog inadvertently starting a fire in its house after mistaking the battery for a chew toy has been made public.
In a Facebook post, the agency issued a warning: “BE CAREFUL you may have items in your home that can lead to a disaster if not properly handled!”

The video follows a statement from the Tulsa Fire Department’s public information officer and shows a white dog sleeping next to a couch and a portable lithium-ion battery meant to charge cell phones.
When a cat and two dogs in the house jump, sparks fly from the battery. Subsequently, there are other little explosions and smoke as the bed fire keeps spreading. The two canines can be seen observing and barking at the fire, but firefighters reassured the audience that the cat and dogs “escaped the home uninjured through a dog door.”
According to the agency, the house was “significantly damaged,” and footage shows the living room in ruins.

“Fire departments all over the country are seeing fires related to these batteries and we want the public to learn about usage, safe storage, and proper disposal of these potentially dangerous batteries,” stated officials in the post’s description.
In order for people to “understand the severity of the situation” about the product in issue, the department shared the video, according to the PIO.
“If there had been no way to escape or if anyone was sleeping at the time, the outcome could have been much worse,” he warned, before urging everyone to charge their gadgets only with official chargers, not to let dogs near them, and never to toss them in the trash.
