A Howell Walmart sign was struck by a car Sunday evening.
The mid-size sedan struck the cement sign after 6 p.m., knocking it loose from its foundation.
Eyewitnesses say the crash caused a fire in the car, which was extinguished by responding units of the Brighton Area Fire Authority.
The condition of the driver and the cause of the crash remain unknown. However, Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy said it appeared to be a medical situation.
“EMS was called as a result of the crash, but not law enforcement,” he told GIGO News. “So reading between the lines it was probably a medical event that caused the crash and Walmart just figured they would take care of it without LE.”
