On Tuesday night, a 5.3 MAGNITUDE earthquake shook California, and the rapidity with which warnings were sent startled locals.
Near 9:09 p.m., the earthquake hit Bakersfield, California, with an initial magnitude of 5.7 according to the US Geological Survey.
At 9:00 p.m., the Bakersfield, California, earthquake occurred.

Many people in Southern California felt the tremors from the earthquake, including those in Camarillo, Woodland Hills, Santa Monica, and Hollywood.

The Seismological Laboratory at Caltech reported that at least 31 aftershocks with magnitudes of 2.5 to 4.1 were later felt in the area.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damages.

After the earthquake, Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles issued a statement in which she promised that city personnel would “continue to monitor any impacts.”
“This evening, the Los Angeles region felt a preliminary magnitude 5.3 earthquake near Mettler, CA,” Bass tweeted.
“Any impacts will be monitored by city teams.”
Following last week’s 4.9-magnitude earthquake in Southern California, this 5.3-magnitude tremor is quite strong.
On July 29, at about 1 pm, residents felt tremors all the way to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
People reported feeling the earthquake this afternoon on social media almost soon after it happened.
The user wrote, “Felt it here in Vegas” on X.
“Likewise, east Hollywood,” someone else chimed up.
According to the Southern California Earthquake Data Center, the shocks were approximately 4.89 miles deep, however, there were no early reports of significant damage.
