Similar to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Cal Fresh is run by the state of California. Every month, it aids those with limited incomes in obtaining food. This is why Cal Fresh allows them to purchase nutritious meals.
The arrival of Cal Fresh checks is something that the people of California are eagerly anticipating. Those who receive these funds must be informed of the precise timing and amount of these payments to organize their food purchases for the entire month of September.
A Summer Nutrition Lifeline: SUN Bucks
In December 2022, Congress approved the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. Because of this, SUN Bucks were able to be created.
This program will greatly impact the lives of several children who rely on school lunches as their primary means of sustenance.
Your Guide to SUN Bucks

What is the process for distributing Cal Fresh checks?
These benefits are distributed using an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card, which functions similarly to a debit card and may be used at participating grocery stores and farmer’s markets.
The system knows what day benefits are loaded into an EBT card from the last digit of the case number. The first ten days of the month are when distribution happens. When a person’s case number ends in 1, they will receive their payments on the first of every month.
The distribution schedule is simplified as follows:
- Cases ending in ‘1’ indicate benefits loaded on the first, whereas case numbers ending in ‘2’ indicate benefits loaded on the second.
- All benefits are loaded on the third case number, which ends in ‘3’.
- The process continues until the tenth of the month.
- By familiarizing themselves with this process, Cal Fresh customers may maximize their benefits and make more informed decisions when grocery shopping.
An important proposal has been unveiled by Governor Gavin Newsom to assist children in California who are going hungry.
In California, the CDSS is launching the statewide food assistance program SUN Bucks. Making sure that low-income youngsters have enough to eat over the summer is its main objective.
