Brighton set to flush fire hydrants

Starting Thursday, Brighton residents may notice some discoloration in their water.

The City of Brighton Utilities Department will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the City’s water utility service area between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm from Thursday, September 1 through Friday, September 16, 2022, excluding Saturday and Sunday. This work will also occur between 12:00 am to 7:00 am on Wednesday, August 31.

City officials ask residents to plan their water use accordingly as the procedure may cause some disturbances and discoloration in the water system. Customers may also experience a temporary drop in pressure as well and are asking residents to refrain from washing white or light-colored clothes during the flushing period.

Anyone who experiences discoloration and rust particles in their water, is asked to run a cold water faucet only for approximately 10 minutes to clear the discolored water from their system. If the water is still discolored after running the cold water for 10 minutes, they should turn off the faucet and repeat the previous step one hour later.

Residents who continue to experience discolored water are asked to call the City of Brighton at 810.844.5115 or email dps@brightoncity.org.
