Alton’s shooting resulted in the death of the K-9 and the suspect.
A K-9 police dog and one suspect were killed in what seemed to be a gunfight in Alton on Thursday.
A suspect and officers from the Alton Police Department exchanged gunshots, according to the Illinois State Police. After being shot, the suspect was transported to a hospital, where his body was later declared deceased.
According to investigators, the Alton Police Department lost one officer and one K-9 in the exchange of gunfire. At this time, the officer’s injuries are being treated at a local hospital. A nearby veterinary hospital treated the injured K-9 immediately, but it did not survive.
In Chicago, a Texas delegate was robbed.
This week, a delegate from Texas was held hostage while attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The heist occurred at 2 in the morning on Wednesday in front of the Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel.
The delegate was allegedly robbed after a guy was held hostage by a suspect who jumped out of a black SUV, according to the police. Nobody got wounded, and no one got arrested.

From Friday, August 23, through Monday, September 2, the Du Quoin State Fair will be hosting the Illinois Department of Public Health, which will offer a range of public health resources and information.
Attendees from the IDPH will be available at the grandstand tent all day long during the fair. As part of their collaboration with the Egyptian Health Department, IDPH will provide free naloxone, a drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Members of staff from both organizations will also be trained to recognize the symptoms of an overdose.
