“Holster it!” There is audio of Young shouting at the police as they attempt to subdue him with the spear. “Back up!”
The life he has known is far from over, a single officer advises him.
An incident occurred 6 2 hours ago in South Florida where a rideshare driver was deceived into delivering stolen funds in a ‘grandparent scam.’
Towards the end of the video, while police officers keep closing in on him, Young screams, “She will die.”
While several officers brandish their rifles, one officer admonishes the others, “Watch crossfire, watch crossfire.”
A police officer tells Young, “Just put the knife down and we’ll talk.” “I swear to God, you’re gonna be fine, you just need to drop the knife.”
An individual will perish when I begin tallying, Young allegedly warned before beginning the task.
Officer Corey Jackson eventually advanced Young and shot him once in the head after a series of stressful moments.
As police intervened to assist the captives in fleeing, Young collapsed to the ground and began to bleed aggressively.
Jackson leaves the store in a state of sheer emotion, as captured on footage from his body camera.
Coworkers in the police department advise him to “breathe, breathe.” “Get some air.”
Transported to a nearby hospital, Young was later declared deceased upon arrival. The tactical knife that Young had gripped around the prisoners’ necks was found nearby.
In a memo dated July 2, 2024, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office stated that prosecutors had determined that Jackson’s use of force was lawfully justifiable after examining the facts.
Wednesday night, Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones released a statement praising the footage, calling it “a thorough and transparent account of the unfolding events, highlighting officers’ exceptional bravery and professionalism in an exceptionally challenging time.”
On July 21, 2023, Young, who was already serving time at Calumet Transitional Housing Unit for multiple offenses (including controlled substances and burglary), left the facility without paying the fine.
