Galveston Island Beach Patrol reports that a man from Louisiana, age 17, drowned in Galveston on Friday.
Beach patrol was dispatched to the area at 2:53 p.m., according to the authorities, in response to reports of a swimmer in trouble near Tower 25’s west side.
The supervisor of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol arrived, and guards motioned for a swimmer who was missing.
When more agencies were summoned to help, a jet ski carrying several guards was sent out to conduct a search.
The 17-year-old was retrieved from the ocean by the beach patrol at 3:38 p.m.
The adolescent was rushed to UTMB by Galveston EMS after receiving CPR from the Galveston police and fire departments. There, he was declared deceased.

Authorities have not disclosed the adolescent’s identity.
The teenager’s death was confirmed by the beach patrol to Eyewitness News as the fifth drowning on Galveston Island this year.
According to Lt. Austin Kirwin, the average number of drownings per season is between seven and eight.
