A bicyclist was killed Sunday night after being struck by multiple vehicles in Hartland Township.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies were dispatched at 9:59 p.m. to 11255 Highland Road (M59) for a vehicle versus a bicyclist injury crash.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 40-year-old Hartland resident was riding an electric bicycle while traveling east in the west bound turn lane on Highland Road. A 2022 Chevrolet Silverado that was being operated by a 23-year-old male Holly resident was exiting the KFC turning west onto Highland Road. The bicyclist was struck in the right turn of Highland Road by the Chevrolet Silverado and thrown from his bicycle. The bicyclist was then struck by one and possibly two motor vehicles as he laid in the roadway.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Chevrolet Silverado driver, who was not injured, was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash while the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County EMS and Hartland Area Fire Department. The roadway remained closed for approximately three hours for the investigation.
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
