BAS board approves new Principal for Spencer Elementary

The Brighton Area Schools Board of Education has selected the next principal at Spencer Elementary School.

At Monday’s meeting, the board approved the hiring of Chelsea Boyd to fill that position. Boyd is an internal hire, having spent the past two years as a district literacy coach and, most recently, the district lead for the BAS multi-tiered system of supports.

“During Chelsea’s two years with the Brighton Area Schools, she has distinguished herself as one of our most important instructional leaders within the district,” said BAS Superintendent Dr. Matt Outlaw.  “Furthermore, she has exceled at building relationships and working collaboratively with staff and parents to deliver results for students.  She is a creative problem solver with a true passion for helping students to succeed.”

According to a press release, Boyd came to Brighton from Genessee County where she was a literacy consultant after having served as a special education teacher 9 years.  She was selected by a panel of Spencer representatives including four teachers, an instructional coach, support staff, parents, a board representative and members of the administration. Boyd is expected to begin her work as principal at Spencer next week.
