Applications are again being accepted for a scholarship program created to honor a long-time businessman and lover of Brighton-area history.
For the fourth year, the Brighton Area Historical Society is offering the Larry Lawrence Memorial Scholarship for a student going into a trade school. The student has to be graduating from a Brighton area school in the last five years and is going to a Vocational / Skilled Trade School. The check will be written to the school the awardee is attending. This year the scholarship will be $2,000.
Lawrence, a 1964 graduate of Brighton High School, served in Vietnam before returning home and entering the automotive industry, eventually opening his own business, Lawrence Autobody, in 1977. A collector of antiquarian books and avid reader, particularly of early American and Native American History, Lawrence proudly served as Director and Director Emeritus of the Brighton Area Historical Society until his passing in 2019.
A website has been created with further details and a brief application that must be submitted no later than April 30.
