Local officials and other volunteers are gearing up for the 19th Annual South Lyon Creek Clean-Up and Earth Day Celebration.
Set for Sunday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event is sponsored by South Lyon Area Boy Scouts Troop 228, Michigan Seamless Tube and Pipe Company, Vibe Credit Union and the City of South Lyon Utilities Department – Storm Water Management & Wellhead Protection Program.
The event aims to conserve and protect South Lyon waterways, which lead to the Huron River watershed and eventually Lake Erie. Volunteers will remove trash and debris from local creeks, streams and waterways and also remove trash from different areas around the community.
Volunteers, who will gather in the truck parking lot for Michigan Seamless Tube off McMunn Street, are advised to wear rubber boots, bright clothing, long sleeves and long pants, and bring sunscreen and bug repellent. Those with rakes and shovels are encouraged to bring those, although they aren’t required.
Organizers say there will be safety vests, masks, gloves, sanitation, and more available for the protection of volunteers and they will be attentive to COVID courtesies.
