An event next month will seek to celebrate and remember kids who have been lost too soon.
The 5th Annual Miles for Smiles for Juliana’s Wishes is set to be held on Saturday, August 6th. The 5k/10k walk/run will be held at Howell High School, starting at 9am.
It was started in memory of Julianna Ward-Brown, who died in a 2018 traffic accident along with her best friend Darian Locklear while traveling to hockey practice for the Meijer 16U girls’ hockey team. Both were 16-year-old juniors: Darian at Brighton High School and Ward-Brown at Howell High School.
Miles for Smiles will include a “memory lane” where organizers will place pictures and banners of the kids being honored. Organizers say it will provide a fun and celebratory atmosphere with music playing and hot dogs provided by LaFontaine Ford of Lansing. MiFitness Community will be providing yoga before the walk/run and Premier Rehabilitation will be providing injury screening and post-race massage.
Money raised from the event will benefit Juliana’s Wishes, which has provided nearly 50 scholarships to graduating Howell High School seniors, as well as made donations to U of M Survival Flight, Livingston County Youth Connection Services and the Livingston County Animal Shelter, to name just a few.
While registration will take place up to and including race day, this Saturday, July 16th is the last day to register to be guaranteed a t-shirt and also before a $5 price increase.
