Local officials and other volunteers took part over the weekend in the 18th Annual South Lyon Creek Clean-Up and Earth Day Celebration.
Participants gathered Sunday morning at Michigan Seamless Tube and Pipe Company on McMunn Street for the community service event in which volunteers worked to safely remove trash and debris from South Lyon Area waterways, creeks, and streams.
Among those taking part were South Lyon Council Members Alex Hansen, Steve Kennedy & Glenn Kivell, along with Oakland County District 8 Commissioner Philip Weipert, and Democratic State House Candidate Jason Morgan.

Meanwhile, officials are gearing up for the 22nd Annual South Lyon Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony this Friday at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Park. A City of South Lyon official will read the Arbor Day Proclamation to declare the city a “Tree City USA”.
This is the 22nd straight year that South Lyon has been recognized as a “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Day Organization (www.arborday.org).
Begun in 1976, Tree City USA is one of the Arbor Day Foundation’s oldest programs. Originally comprised of 42 communities in 16 states, today the program includes more than 3,600 communities from all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico.
