A free Advanced Driver Training Course is being offered for local teens at the Fowlerville Proving Grounds.
Open to 30 students who are in high school, aged 15 or older, and who have a permit or a license, the course, sponsored by FT Techno America, will be held on Saturday, September 23rd from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the proving grounds on Smith Road in Fowlerville.
Organizers say the hands-on event goes well beyond traditional driver training as teens will use their own vehicles to learn how to safely spin out on ice and snow, avoid accidents with skid control, breaking, acceleration, and more.
“The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in,”
states the program’s website. “They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.”
