A $943 direct check from Social Security will be sent out in six days for January!

Millions of people will get their up to $943 Supplemental Security Income payment for January in six days. On Dec. 31, the next SSI payments will be sent out because Jan. 1 is a government holiday. The Social Security Administration says that SSI benefits are given to people who have disabilities that make it hard for them to work and make money.

If someone wants to file, they must be partially or totally blind or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that seriously limits their daily activities for 12 months or more or may be expected to result in death.”

The amount that beneficiaries get varies in a number of ways, such as how many people file. People who file for SSI alone can get up to $943 a month, couples who file together can get up to $1,415 a month, and essential persons, or people who give SSI recipients the help they need, can get up to $472 a month. Since last year, these numbers have gone up by 3.2% because of inflation.

A recipient can use an SSA tool to find out how much money they will get in total.

Regular Social Security benefits and SSI payouts are not linked. People who get Social Security benefits do not immediately get SSI benefits, and the same is true for the other way around.
