If you are one of the thousands of Americans on SNAP benefits whose EBT cards have been drained, there is something you can do about it. Checking your EBT card balance may be an unpleasant surprise when thieves took away all your money.
Be careful when you use your EBT card because scammers are using skimmers on top of a credit card device. Before using your EBT card, make sure the card device has not been manipulated. Bot calls are another way to have access to the money you have on your SNAP card. Making use of any personal identifying information, they manage to steal your Food stamps.
Report Stolen SNAP Benefit Payments
According to the USDA, the law requires States to replace Food Stamp benefits stolen between September 30, 2024, and December 20, 2024. Thanks to the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, the date has been revised.
The USDA recommends using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program State Directory of Resources to find where your local Food Stamp office is.
Once you find your local SNAP office, you can call them or visit them. Sometimes they have a website to report stolen benefits online. Reporting stolen benefits within 30 calendar days is essential. So, report and submit a claim ASAP.
How long can a State take to validate a SNAP stolen benefits claim?
A State has 10 calendar days to validate this theft claim. What is more, Food Stamp benefits for approved claims will be delivered to an EBT card no later than the day after the claim was approved.
