MJP –
Caution is advised for drivers on the following thirteen roadways in New York State this week: You might soon receive a speeding ticket. From now until Saturday, September 21, 2024, drivers will be subject to automatic fines for speeding in designated work zones.
In some construction zones around the state, automated speed monitoring is mandated by New York Vehicle & Traffic Law Section 1180-E. The New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) have joined forces for this five-year project.
Drivers, beware of this New York City intersection!
Licensees of registered vehicles seen speeding on controlled-access highways in work zones can be fined by the New York State Transportation Authority and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. This implies that whoever is behind the wheel will not be exempt from a speeding fine.
There will be automatic fines for speeding in designated work zones.
Compliance Date: The program is scheduled to end on September 21, 2024.
Paying the Fine: No matter who is behind the wheel, the registered owner of the vehicle is still liable for any fines.
The truth is that the automated speed detection system doesn’t care who’s driving. The individual whose name appears on the vehicle registration will be the one to receive the fine, regardless of whether it’s a member of your family or a friend driving your vehicle.
Be extremely careful when driving through monitored work zones on certain highways to avoid hefty fines. Always obey the speed limit signs and make sure everyone riding shotgun with you knows the rules of the road. You can help make the roads safer for everyone and yourself by keeping yourself informed and driving responsibly to avoid fines.
