Unexpectedly, a chain of restaurants started by a popular comedian is shutting down after just two years in operation.

Comedian Kevin Hart began the vegan fast food business Hart House two years ago, and now it has formally shut down all of its stores.

The final day of business for the four restaurants in Southern California was Tuesday, as verified by Eater LA’s CEO Andy Hooper.

“The response to the product has been incredible, and we thank our committed team, our customers, and our community partners for helping make the change we all craved,” Hooper said, expressing deep appreciation for the support received.

Another part of the chain’s Instagram farewell was a photo of a vegan chicken burger with the words “thank you” superimposed on top. The caption read: “A Heartfelt goodbye for now as we start a new chapter.”

Hart House’s August 2022 opening sought to encourage a vegan lifestyle, drawing inspiration from Hart’s transition to a primarily plant-based diet in 2020.

Under $8 you could purchase a chicken sandwich, nuggets, or burger from this fast food chain, and combo meals cost less than $15.

The first outpost debuted in May 2023 at the highly trafficked Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue crossroads, adjacent to In-N-Out Burger and Chick-fil-A.

Hart House aspired to imitate this location’s drive-thru in future outlets, as Hooper pointed out.

Although there was a lot of excitement about Hart House’s aim, it has already closed down, ending a short but ambitious run in the fast food industry.
