The Irvine, California-based burger business In-N-Out Burger announced on Friday, March 1, that it will launch its inaugural Washington state location.
The VP of store development at In-N-Out, Mike Abbate, said via email that the company has submitted a development application to the city of Ridgefield and will be collaborating with the government on the necessary approvals and permits.
Located in Clark County, which is the southernmost in the state, Ridgefield is home to about 12,000 people. It is about 2½ hours away from Seattle, yet just 20 minutes away from Portland, Oregon.
In a Facebook post regarding traffic projects, the city of Ridgefield stated on Thursday, “Our permitting and engineering team has worked closely with In-N-Out to ensure they are not only creating enough queuing spaces to avoid backups onto roads but also that the design of the building will be unique, high-quality and complementary to Ridgefield.” The post was made in response to a previous post about the projects.
As the years-long effort to relocate In-N-Out to the Outlets at Orange shows, building projects can take months—if not years—to get through the permitting and approval processes of city governments before they reach the construction stage.

The “Opening Soon” page on In-N-Out’s website is often updated when the construction stage is reached. As of right now, there are six places listed on that page: the Orange restaurant in California, Redlands, Oxnard, and Sylmar; Layton, Utah; and Flagstaff, Arizona.
Washington might become the eleventh state to have an In-N-Out location; the business is already present in eight states and plans to open in two more.
Here are the names of those eight states: Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, and Texas. Planning is underway for both New Mexico and Tennessee.
The first In-N-Out Burger to open in Idaho in December was a huge hit with locals and visitors alike.
