Northside, Ohio — This summer, the owner of the building sold the property, forcing a local brewery to close.
As they prepare to reopen in a different location, they are now appealing to the community for assistance.
The Northside community has embraced Humble Monk Brewing Company throughout its five years of presence. The Kemp brothers, Alicia and Michael, took their passion for beer and made it into something more.
“We created a very nice third space if you will,” said the representative from the humble monk brewing company. A place to gather with friends and family, whether that’s at home or the office, Michael said.
They take great pride in brewing their product in a Belgian style.
As a group, we like to joke that beer is like jellybeans in that there is no set flavor because everyone is unique. Alicia then explained that the customer could pick any type they liked. “It adds to the enjoyment, so make an effort to satisfy everyone’s taste.”

This chapter came to a close when they left the brewery they had built, operating much of the apparatus by hand.
One bright spot is how much shallower the learning curve is. “I have learned more since then,” Michael declared.
However, renovations to a structure dating back to the 1860s will shortly begin on Colerain Avenue, just down the street.
The Kemps have stated that they are currently addressing many issues, one of which is the possibility that they will not be able to brew their beer in this location. They are aiming to collect $35,000 to pay for everything. Already, they have accomplished one-third of their objective.
“It seems like everyone is pitching in to support us,” Michael remarked.
The area would be designed with individuals in mind, Michael promised. “With any luck, this place will live up to the friendly vibes of our taproom.”
