According to the Colma Police Department, on Tuesday, a man allegedly threatened a victim with a knife, snatched a woman’s phone, and then fled the scene behind her bike.
A shop located in the 3600 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard was the victim of a theft. One of the workers at the store saw a man make off with her phone. As reported by the Colma Police Department, the employee challenged the suspect over the theft of her phone, and then the suspect shoved her.
As he was leaving the business, another employee approached the suspect and asked him to return the phone. Additionally, the suspect shoved that employee, according to Colma PD.
To retrieve the stolen phone, the suspect was approached by the employee’s boyfriend. The suspect lost it and started slashing at the partner with a knife. After that, the criminal got on his bike and rode away.

The arrival of law enforcement at the establishment was delayed until 5:40 p.m. The individual suspected of the crime was described as wearing a black sweater and a black backpack to the police. Someone said the suspect had a scar on his face as well.
A second shoplifting in the 1200 block of El Camino Real was the subject of a dispatch to the Colma Police Department only half an hour after the first. Authorities were alerted to the fact that a male suspect had come on a bike and was “concealing merchandise.”

After officers positively identified the suspect as the individual who had stolen the phone earlier that day, they were able to apprehend him.
Rafael “Juan” Smith, 34, was named as the male suspect. “Smith is an unhoused individual,” says Colma PD.
There was suspicion of methamphetamine and a knife on Smith, according to the Colma police.
The San Mateo County Jail was the site of Smith’s arrest and booking on charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon, violence, and possession of a controlled substance allegations.
