After a gunshot on Wednesday night killed a popular rap musician from Birmingham and wounded another man, a 66-year-old woman barely avoided harm.
Sometime after eight o’clock in the evening, gunfire was heard coming from a residence on the 700 block of 30th Street S.W.
West Precinct officers discovered 28-year-old Kayla Alexandria Warren, also known as 205KayWay, shot on the front porch of a friend’s home when they arrived at the residence.
She was declared dead at 10:54 p.m. after being taken to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service employees.
According to police, they found out that a second person had been taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center by a private vehicle. After that, he was allegedly taken to UAB Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
When the gunman (or gunmen) started shooting, a group of people had gathered at the house.

It is possible that Warren was simply unlucky in his timing rather than the intended target, according to investigators.
Warren is accompanied by his small daughter.
The cousin of Warren, who asked that her name not be used, added, “She was sweet, very caring.” “She was an exceptional mother to her daughter.”
“She was just starting in the rap game and has just returned to Midfield School of Cosmetology to get her license,” she explained. I will genuinely miss her.
Neighbor Marian Redwine’s house was hit by at least six bullets, while the exact number of rounds fired is still unclear.
Murder began when Redwine sat in a bedroom lounge chair, engrossed in her television.
“There was a lot of gunfire,” Redwine responded. “They accomplish it frequently, but the proximity was too great.”
Disregarding her chair, Redwine rose to seek refuge. She probably took a life-saving action.
Gunshots rang out outside her bedroom door and inside her room. Even with her sitting down, they would have been lying in her bed.
“I would have been dead if I had been in my bed,” she declared. “I wasn’t expecting to be alive,” I said, laughing.
Bullets ricocheted off a metal cup resting on a table adjacent to Redwine’s chair. On impact, the twenty fresh ink pens inside burst, distributing ink all over her vitamins, medications, and the floor.
“I had no idea it went through the TV until the police lady informed me,” Redwine stated.
According to her, “that’s what saved me” when she knocked herself out. It was a terrible experience for Redwine, who had lived in her home for thirteen years.
She stated, “I ain’t never been so scared.” ‘I was up all night.’
‘I’m sick of it,’ Redwine lamented. “This place doesn’t make me feel safe, and I hate having to leave, but I must immediately.”
Nobody has been taken into custody just yet.
