Breaking News! Gastonia’s Only Female K9 Officer Leads the Charge in Robbery Suspect Hunt

MJP — Gastonia, North Carolina

Following a mile-long search, police in Gastonia, North Carolina, say they apprehended a man from Gaston County who was one of two suspects in a gas station robbery.

Bryant Eaves, a 24-year-old suspect, was located after approximately 30 minutes of searching by GPD Officer Nikki Warlick and her K9 partner, Ozzy. He was hidden beneath insulation, ductwork, and wiring when they discovered him at a house that was being built.

They accomplished their goal as a team.

The unsolved murder of a Gastonia family has prompted the purchase of a billboard place.
“We’ve been on the road about seven months and we’ve been together for a year,” Warlick remarked.

It just so happens that Warlick’s colleague has four legs, as is common for most officers to work in pairs.

“All he wants to do is work,” she explained.

Warlick has been working with K-9 units for nearly ten years, but she considers Ozzy to be the best dog she has ever had.

“Every day at work, I get to vent to him about my problems, hahaha,” she says with a laugh.

Typically, their job isn’t a bed of roses.

Police K9 Ozzy with Officer Warlick of the Gastonia Police Department. “He’s guiding me towards danger, but he’s also serving as my protector, being the first one to venture out,” Warlick remarked.

One of the perpetrators of an armed robbery at a Circle K gas station was sought after earlier this week by the two individuals. They searched a house on Little Rock Street, which led them through briers and woodlands before they reached the suspect.

Adding, “Ozzy took me right to him,” Warlick continued.

Police in Gastonia use K-9s to apprehend individuals wanted for car burglaries. The K9 is remarkable, but so is the person who trains him. Among all of Gastonia County’s K-9 officers, Warlick is unique in that she is the first and only female officer.

Her perspective was different, she stated. I could see myself as one of the lads. No matter what, I adore my job.

Warlick considers herself fortunate to be a part of an accepting team, and she wishes that other girls and women will see this and realize they can achieve their dreams of working for any job they like.

I go out here every day and work circles around some of the men at our agency, so you shouldn’t allow someone to tell you that you can’t do it just because you’re a female.
